This is an annual recognition to entities or individuals who stand out in the defence of Human Rights, especially in Acampa<\/span><\/strong>\u2019s fields of action: the defence of Human Rights, the Right to Refuge and the defence of Peace and dialogue as a formula for conflict resolution. The aim is to highlight the need to defend Human Rights by presenting the work carried out by organisations and individuals who are a reference and an example for society as a whole. We intend to put the media spotlight on the situation of regression of Human Rights around the world and the importance of recovering and defending them with the strength and resilience of the organisations and people who receive this recognition, which will be proposed and voted by all the organisations and people who make up the Red Acampa Internacional<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

La Cocina Econ\u00f3mica de La Coru\u00f1a<\/strong> is a charitable association founded in 1886, of a private nature, with its own statutes and whose purpose is to provide meals every day of the year to the less well-off or people without resources, who can also have access to assistance services and services related to personal hygiene. It is run by a Board of Directors, whose positions are honorary.<\/p>\n

Many years have passed since its foundation, but the firm commitment to serve the needy remains intact, which encourages us to continue working day by day with renewed ideas and firm purposes. This has been reflected in the creation of the Integral Cleaning Service and the Solidarity Point; the assistance of a Social Worker; and the delivery of meals for families in the neighbourhoods.<\/p>\n

The enthusiasm of all good-hearted citizens in the social work of the entity has allowed us to achieve the proposed objectives. That is why we can assure that the success of the Cocina Econ\u00f3mica is a success of all its collaborators.<\/p>\n

Ecodesarrollo Gaia<\/strong>, is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) for sustainable development, born in 1992 in the framework of the United Nations Conference Rio-92 of the UNCED, and which owes its name to the meaning of the Greek word “Terra Madre”.<\/p>\n

We work within the framework of Human Rights, Peace-No-Violence, Equal Gender Opportunities, Environmental Protection, Sustainability, North-South and Intergenerational Equity with immigration and in international cooperation and development projects.<\/p>\n

We collaborate with ecological, social, cultural and human rights NGOs at Spanish and international level and with CITE – CCOO.<\/p>\n

We work with the Green Belt Movement and its leader Dr. Wangari Maathai in Kenya, winner of the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize.<\/p>\n

NGO in solidarity with immigrants arriving in this city, especially with the Senegalese, teaching them the language, processing the necessary paperwork, even accompanying future fishermen to swimming pools to learn to swim, installing a lot of mattresses in their premises, while they could not rent a flat, where they slept and the next day they picked them up and it was again the place to receive them and help them. Not only do they help them here, they also help them with food, but they also built a school in Senegal that bears the name of Coru\u00f1a, a workshop for young girls who had to leave school, a fish dryer….<\/p>\n

Every year they go with doctors to cure as much as they can, they also go on another trip with dentists and they also took young people with them on another trip so that they could see how life is in the Third World and become aware of it.<\/p>\n

They work for peace and ecology, the defence of women and among many other activities they have published a wonderful book called “Iron Water”, where they clearly explain the reasons for immigration (the exploitation and theft of their resources), as well as everything we must do not to harm them and our wonderful planet.<\/p>\n

Leticia Santaballa Santos<\/strong>. Psychologist, project technician and migration specialist. With a degree in Psychology (University of Santiago de Compostela and University of South Wales), she oriented her career towards local development and migration studies, completing a master’s degree in international cooperation, a master’s degree in management of integrated local development (University of Valencia) and a master’s degree in Social Policies and community intervention, with a specialisation in Migrations (University of A Coru\u00f1a).<\/p>\n

She is a PhD researcher in the Welcoming Spaces project. During her Master’s thesis, she conducted a self-financed research on local experiences and practices of multilevel integration for asylum seekers and refugees throughout the Spanish peninsula, focusing on the relationship created with civil society. Alternating academic studies with fieldwork in migration, she has extensive work experience in Spain, Greece (where she spent time in the field), Spain, Greece (where she spent time in the field) and Spain.
work experience in Spain, Greece (where she spent seven months as a volunteer) and France, as a social intervention technician in reception and inclusion of migrant population, integration of young migrants in rural and urban economically disadvantaged areas, local and partial participation, management of refugee camps.
She is part of ESOMI (Societies in Movement Research Team) as a contracted project manager and of the volunteer association Simbiosis.<\/p>\n

Nicanor Acosta Alonso<\/strong>, 82 years old. An anti-Franco militant, Nico has participated in the city’s social movements.<\/p>\n

He promoted the Festivities for Cultural Diversity in the Agra del Orz\u00e1n neighbourhood, he still promotes the Galician Immigration Forum; he promoted the first World March for Peace and Nonviolence (2009-2010); he stood out in the 15M movement, taking part in the camp and in the demonstrations, always with his megaphone.<\/p>\n

He participated in Stop Evictions, organised the people affected by the preference shares scam.<\/p>\n

He founded the association Forum Propolis, whose premises have been a meeting place for many social movements, and from which he organises round tables on current issues.<\/p>\n

He has promoted the second World March for Peace and Nonviolence.<\/p>\n

He participates in Vangarda Obreira, Acampa pola Paz e o Dereito a Refuxio and other causes.<\/p>\n
