This is an annual recognition to entities or individuals who stand out in the defence of Human Rights, especially in Acampa’s fields of action: the defence of Human Rights, the Right to Refuge and the defence of Peace and dialogue as a formula for conflict resolution. The aim is to highlight the need to defend Human Rights by presenting the work carried out by organisations and individuals who are a reference and an example for society as a whole. We intend to put the media spotlight on the situation of regression of Human Rights around the world and the importance of recovering and defending them with the strength and resilience of the organisations and people who receive this recognition, which will be proposed and voted by all the organisations and people who make up the Red Acampa Internacional.

Articulação dos Povos indígenas do Brasil
Articulação dos Povos indígenas do Brasil – APIB was created by the indigenous movement at the Free Land Camp in 2005. The ATL is our national mobilisation, held every year since 2004, to make visible the situation of indigenous rights and to demand that the Brazilian state pay attention to their demands and claims.
APIB is a national reference body of the Brazilian indigenous movement, created from the bottom up. It brings together our regional indigenous organisations and was born with the objective of strengthening the union of our peoples, the articulation between the different regions and indigenous organisations of the country, as well as mobilising indigenous peoples and organisations against threats and aggressions to indigenous rights.

Carola Rackete
Carola Rackete, is a German captain and social activist who in June 2019, made the forced disembarkation on the Italian island of Lampedusa with the humanitarian ship Sea-Watch 3, disobeying the prohibition of the Italian Ministry of Interior.
At the end of 2014, Sea-Watch grew out of an initiative of volunteers who could not stand on the sidelines witnessing people dying in the Mediterranean Sea any longer. They try to save as many people as possible from death by drowning.
Sea-Watch has so far been involved in the rescue of well over 35,000 people.

Coordinadora de Barrios was set up more than 25 years ago with the aim of being present in the world of social exclusion.
It is made up of people and groups who, through personal encounters and social involvement, seek solutions to problems together with those who today suffer from poverty and marginalisation.

COPINH
Consejo Cívico de Organizaciones Populares e Indígenas de Honduras
COPINH (Consejo Cívico de Organizaciones Populares Indígenas de Honduras) is an indigenous, non-profit, pluralist, broad, united and united social and political organisation in the south-west of Honduras with national impact.
It is a body that facilitates the vindication and recognition of political, social, cultural and economic rights, promoting the improvement of the living conditions of the Lenca and Honduran indigenous peoples and communities.
It is also a space for debate and constant analysis of the regional and national situation, which promotes actions and proposals on a permanent basis.
Throughout its trajectory, COPINH has established its pillars of struggle: anti-capitalism, anti-patriarchy and anti-racism.
It has also articulated its work with different grassroots movements in Latin America.
It is part of several national, regional and continental articulation spaces such as: Red Latinoamericana Contra Represas REDLAR, Articulación Continental de los Movimientos Sociales Hacia el ALBA, Grito de los Excluidos/as Continental, COMPA, A súa loita e valentía son enormes.

COPINH is anti-patriarchal, anti-imperialist, anti-neoliberal, sensitive to the problems, needs and rights of the indigenous, peasant and urban communities of the Honduran people and the world.
Working with indigenous and popular culture and cosmovision to achieve social justice, vindicating the struggle and social mobilisation. Its values and principles are: Equity, Honesty-integrity, Autonomy, Ethics, Respect, Coherence, Self-esteem and Loyalty.
Its leader Berta Cáceres was assassinated 5 years ago for defending these values.

Elena Maternity Center
Elna Maternity Center (Athens) is a shelter and comprehensive care centre for refugee women who are pregnant or with breastfeeding babies and are in a vulnerable situation.
EMC is currently housed in a building in the centre of Athens and is supported by a group of small Spanish NGOs.
The maternity ward functions as a home for the families and those who enter remain in the project until their situation is somehow regularised.

Malala Yousafzai

Malala Yousafzai, Pakistani activist and advocate for girls’ and women’s right to education.
At the age of 15, she was the target of a Taliban attack that nearly took her life.
She became an international symbol of the fight for girls’ education after she was shot in 2012 for opposing Taliban restrictions on women’s education in her home country of Pakistan.
In 2009, Malala began blogging under a pseudonym about increased military activity in her home village and fears that her school would be attacked. Once her identity was revealed, Malala and her father, Ziauddin, continued to speak out for the right to education.
In 2013, Malala and her father jointly founded the Malala Fund to raise awareness of the social and economic impact of girls’ education and to empower girls to demand change.
In recognition of her work, Malala Yousafzai received the Nobel Peace Prize (2014), the newest person to do so.
She was nominated as a United Nations Messenger of Peace in 2017 to help raise awareness about the importance of girls’ education.

Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem Terra
Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem Terra (MST), founded in 1984, is one of the most important social and political movements in the world and the main one in Latin America.
As is well known, Brazil has historically had unequal access to land, a direct consequence of a patrimonialist and patriarchalist social and political organisation that has prevailed for centuries, with large estates predominating as a synonym for power. Thus, given the concentration of land ownership, the less favoured strata, such as slaves, ex-slaves or free men from the less wealthy classes, would have greater difficulties in gaining access to land.
The best known form of struggle of the Movement is the land occupations, when a group of landless families occupies an area, public or private, that is not fulfilling its social function, unproductive land, and claims it for Agrarian Reform – as designated by the Federal Constitution.

Red Renta Básica
The Red Renta Básica was founded in 2001 when basic Income was practically unknown.
Basic income is an income paid by the state, as a right of citizenship, to every full member of society, even if he or she wants to work for pay, regardless of whether he or she is rich or poor, regardless of other possible sources of income, and regardless of who he or she lives with.
It is a radical defence that every human being, by the fact of being born, has access to the satisfaction of his or her vital needs and does not have to be a slave of the neo-liberal purchase.
In the critical times we are living in due to this stage of a savage capitalism in which inequalities between people are increasing to the point of preventing the lives of many millions of them, Basic Income is a real challenge to this system.
The Basic Income Network is an official section of the international organisation Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN) since the assembly of the latter held in Geneva on 14th September 2002.
The Network has been constituted as an association since 2001 and its statutes are available on the internet.

Setsuko Thurlow
Setsuko Thurlow, 89 years old, survivor of Hiroshima.
In 2017, ICAN (International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons) received the Nobel Peace Prize, for which Setsuko is a spokesperson.
Setsuko bears her testimony in a relentless struggle for the elimination of nuclear arsenals.
She and all the survivors decide not to take revenge or become bitter, but to tell what they have experienced as far as they can.
She is a founder of the organisation Hiroshima Nagasaki Relived in 1974 to raise awareness among the general public about the consequences of nuclear weapons.
She is a member of Nihon Hidankyo, the Japanese confederation of atomic bomb survivors, and has participated in several school and academic presentations as a member of the Hibakusha Stories project in New York.
He has been a crew member of the Peace Boat, a Japanese NGO promoting nuclear disarmament.
She is a spokesperson for ICAN (International Campaign for the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons) Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2017. Her activism continues, convincing young people, adults, personalities and institutions to make nuclear weapons disappear from the face of the earth. “It is profoundly naïve to think that the world can keep nuclear weapons without them being used again”.
